FIVE HACKS FOR STYLING CURLY HAIR

Curly hair takes special care and while the comments from non-curly hair folk are mostly those of envy and admiration, us with curly hair know all too well that having a good curly hair day is a little harder than it looks.

Curls can be unpredictableunruly, and difficult to control, and there are days when your curls probably feel less than enviable but here we’ve shared 5 hot tips to keep your curls all class.

1.REGULAR TRIMS TO AVOID SPLIT ENDS

Damaged hair is never a good look (not to mention split ends can make your hair even more prone to frizz). If you want healthy, controllable curls that look bouncy and fresh, head to the hairstylist every four to six weeks for a trim.  It’s also important you see a hairdresser who cuts your hair to suit the natural texture of curls – hairdressers and ANTI experts are working on these hair textures every day and understand that curly hair behaves differently and needs to be cut by a curly hair expert.

2.USE PRODUCT 'COCKTAILING' TO DEFINE AND HYDRATE CURLS

Quality products are all about moisture retention and working with the natural textures of the hair, and ANTI collective has a range of curl care products in the Everything line to maintain the integrity of naturally curly hair while keeping it fresh, nourished and defined to perfection.

Highly versatile whether you have tight curls needing moisture or a less structured beachy texture – we understand that curls need versatile care. Taking perfect care of curls is about the right mix of product that doesn’t weigh the curls down – Everything Spray, Everything Cream and Everything Shampoo and Conditioner is the ideal arsenal to treat curly hair and keep it fresh daily.

3. WET HAIR EVERY MORNING BEFORE STYLING AND FINISHING

Rather than shampooing every day, try rinsing hair each morning to remove any excess product.

In all honesty, the frequency of your wash days depends on your shampoo and the type of curls you are looking for, as well as personal preference, and the state of your natural curls. With that said, there’s a solid chance that you should be rinsing more often than you have been – this will help refresh the curls without losing too much moisture. Much like skin, hot water can dry hair out. While it feels luxurious to run hot water through your hair, the heat can strip your hair of essential oils. Rinse with lukewarm or room temperature water instead. Even on a shampoo and conditioner day – rinsing with cold water also helps to seal the cuticles.

4. SILK PILLOW CASE/HAIR WRAP FOR SLEEPING

You may be surprised to know that friction on pillows or while sleeping causes damage to the curl – hence waking up with more frizz than our ideal curl look welcomes.

Curly hair loves minimal interaction, so as an average wash hair once or twice a week to allow natural oils to build up, comb through when in the shower with conditioner with a wide tooth comb, put your styling products on towel dried hair and leave to air dry. Use a hair wrap the night you have washed and if wearing a hair wrap every other day is too much to ask – a silk pillow case is the ultimate hair hack.

The silk's natural smoothness allows your hair and skin to glide onto the case while preventing static and friction.

Even the softest sheets, if they aren't from silk, will cause minor tugging on your skin and your hair. Yes, it's minor, but you sleep on that pillow 365 nights a year, providing 365 chances for friction – eliminate that chance with a silk pillowcase.

5. AVOID HEAT STYLING/ADDING MOISTURE DAILY

While we can’t always completely avoid heat styling, your curls will definitely thank you do. The less changes in moisture/temperature and touching of the hair when drying the better. Beyond environmental damage, heat styling is one of the worst things we can do for hair, but if you must we recommend Everything Spray to help protect against the heat styling and maintain moisture. Applying product to wet hair and night or in the morning and letting it dry naturally is a saving grace for curls.

The important thing is to maintain a high moisture level and keep frizz at bay and that style cut you’ve invested in to keep your curls looking great will last even longer. For severely dry curls we also recommend Everything Cream daily to treat the hair while also acting as a protective shield – applying when wet and you’ll especially see the benefits of extra moisture in curly hair.

The ANTI cruelty, vegan and plant-based Everything range have manageability covered via a compact line up that has been hand-picked by professionals to control and enhance natural hair textures including that of curly hair, that many brands forget. Our prep and finishing arsenal will allow you to reach a new realm of controlled curls without weighing the hair down.

Your curls make you unique and in them we trust.
